A Top Rated Flat Iron Reviews Tip: Don’t Use Water Based Products…

Well, I don’t mean like never ever use them but…well just read on…

In case you didn’t know, I read so much about flat irons and hair care related stuff its not even funny. However, even when you are not looking for specific information about flat irons you still might come across a rare special gem that reveals to you the secret to eternally straight hair (or something like that).

So, right now I am in the process of finding new hair products after my discovery that:

A) my hair hates coconut oil and ALL coconut based ingredients

and

B) almost ALL hair products in the store (and many online) contain some form of coconut. Needless to say, this has been a very frustrating journey.

Anywhoo, I was reading about a product from the Myhoneychild line that was supposed to be good to use for many things like moisture etc as well as flat ironing your hair. However, one reviewer made a very good point that I hadn’t thought about before.

Her observation was…Is it a good idea to use a waterbased styling product on your hair right before you flat iron? Her conclusion was no and I have to emphatically agree. I never thought about it but when you flat iron we are trying to keep the the moisture out of our hair. If we use a water based or humectant based product in our hair (meaning a product that we won’t be washing out leave in/ serum, etc)  right before or after we flat iron then then surely this will cause two things to happen:

1) A quasi semi-straight result that will… 2) be pouffy, frizzy, and curly again at the first sign of humidity

Now I don’t know about you, but I do not spend two hours in a hot bathroom straightening my hair just so it can get frizzy again in 2 seconds. I realize now, that I many times will use a product on my hair that is water based and low and behold about one hour after flat ironing, my hair is reverting back and I am PO.

Are you experiencing this? Is your hair puffy and frizzy a few hours after you flat iron? Check your hair products….they may have water or humectants in them a and that could be the cause of your straight hair troubles.

If you find that you are using water based or humectant products, then switch to a silicone based product. You might even want to use a product that repells moisture and humidity, like Sabino Lok and Blok so that you hair stays sleek as long as possible.

If you are confused as to which products to use on your hair before flat ironing then here are some suggestions:

Heat Protectant-  Tresemme Heat Tamer Style Spray

Heat Protectant and Straightening Serum in OneRedken Smooth Down Heat Glide

Leave-In- CHI Silk Infusion Leave-In Treatment

Flat Iron For Those With Frizzy Hair- Remington Shine Therapy Frizz Control, Humidity Resistant Ceramic Flat Hairstyling Iron

Well I tell you , you never know where flat iron inspiration might strike. I hope this has helped ya’ll figure out how to get sleek and shiny hair. Let all frizz, whether our hair is curly or straight be banished forever…

Okay and on that melodramatic note lol, I’m out.

Peace,

And KQC is one of the top picks of hair stylists and has great reviews from it’s users.

Gift #2: KQC Shine Spray valued at $18.99. You know, if a flat iron is doing its job, it will make your hair glossy. However, a little extra gloss never hurt and that’s what this shine will do. It will make it shiny without making it greasy (according to its users).

TR Flat Iron Reviews Quick Post: Cheap vs Expensive Flat Irons

Hey Ya’ll,

I found this question on Yahoo answers a little ago  and I think it is a very obvious question but one that is not answered very often. Here is my take on it:

Q: What the difference between cheap and expensive flat irons?

There are a pair of flat irons that seem pretty good for about 170.00. But I dont want to pay that much unless im getting allot of bang for my buck. So beside durablity whats the difference between an $20 and $170 flat irons? Or it just a scam?

A:  Okay so there are two different ways to answer this question…We can look at it as what the actual differences are and what the actual differences should be.

What the actual difference should be between expensive and cheap flat irons:

1) Expensive flat irons should first and foremost use higher quality material for their plates. For instance, the $200 Ghd should use more solid ceramic heaters and plates than the $30 Conair. The Conair usually uses a ceramic coating on its plate with the actual plate being made out of… metal, aluminum? I don’t know but it is not good for your hair nor does it produce the negative ions that give you the shiny look that you are going for when you flat iron

2) They should have more features that cheaper flat iron. Various nano technologies, digital displays, higher temperature settings, longer cords, and they should last longer than a drugstore flat iron although that is in no way guaranteed.

What the differences really are between expensive and cheap flat irons:

1) In many cases high end hair straighteners are made with better materials (but not always). Sign up for my fairy tale newsletter on the sidebar to see what I mean.

2) Sometimes part of the difference is how the flat iron has marketed itself. Remington is a very well established company that has sought to be affordable for almost everyone. They might make good flat irons that they are able to sell cheaper because they are a household name, so to speak. For instance, the Remington Shine Therapy Flat Iron gets great reviews and it is under $60. These are considered consumer flat irons for as regular folks.

Then you have the professional or salon grade flat irons like the Sedu or the KQC. They are marketed as the creme de la creme and most of them live up that. They really can deliver salon quality results and if you go to a hairdresser it is unlikely that you are going to see a Conair flat iron lying around. It will usually be ones like I just mentioned.

My rule of thumb is this…if you look up reviews for a certain flat iron that costs, say, $150 or more and the ratings aren’t at least 4 or more stars or/and there’s only a few reviews, I wouldn’t get it. Or at the very least they should have a well defined return policy.

Okay so this wasn’t as quick as I imagined so I’ll go ahead and end it here. For more info, read my post Flat Iron Metal Plates.

10 Things You Must Do To Keep Your Hair Straight

Hey Everyone, How To Straighten Hair

As you may know, I like to answer questions on Yahoo Answers and as I was answering this one question I thought “Hmmm, this looks like a blog post”.  See what you think…

Nadia Asked: Why won’t my hair stay flat!?

I have natural hair, and every time I straighten it with my flat iron, and I comb it (or not) it goes right back to being big again. I love my big hair no doubt, but I just want to know why it goes back to being big I’m Haitian with a little Asian and Hispanic and don’t know anyone else with this problem. Could thinning my hair make it stay flat?

My Answer: I totally agree with the person who said don’t thin your hair out! Please please please don’t do that.

Do you know how many people would love to have your thick hair. I’m sure it’s beautiful but you just need a little encouragement to get it to stay straight. I understand. I have very thick hair like you. Follow these steps. When you are about to flat iron your hair, you want everything that you do to your hair to promote straightness.

1) Use a straightening shampoo on your hair. I recommend Sleek Look By Matrix Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner Liter Duo Set . The reviews for it are amazing.

2) Use a straightening conditioner on your hair. See suggestion above

3) Let your final rinse be freezing cold water. This really does serve to flatten your hair. I know from experience. In order to get your body ready for the cold water, just slowly turn the water from warm to cool so that your body can slowly adjust. It’s kinda refreshing once you get used to it

4) Use a sleekening/straightening leave in conditioner. L’Oreal Paris EverSleek, Humidity Defying Leave-In Crème is a good one to try.

5) Blow dry your hair with a good quality blow dryer. This is a must especially for those of us with thick hair. You need to use a blow dryer that is ceramic. Turbo Power Twin Blow Dryers are the kinds of blow dryers that Dominican Hairstylists use and they get your hair incredibly straight with a round brush.

6) Use a heat protectant that also has straightening abilities. This is so your hair won’t be weighted down and will have movement and bounce. The less product you use, the more bounce your hair will have. I suggest Sabino Lok and Blok

7) Flat iron your hair in a well ventilated room. If the room is too hot then you will start to sweat and your hair will revert back just as fast as you straighten it. You also need to make sure you are using a good quality flat iron like a Sedu or BaByliss

8) Use a humidity blocker spray on your hair. Avlon KeraCare Oil Sheen with Humidity Block 11 oz. has a perfedt 5 star rating.

9) Wrap your hair when you are done and do a silk wrap under a dryer. Look at the video for instructions:

[vsw id=”QDOPWlDylV4″ source=”youtube” width=”425″ height=”344″ autoplay=”no”]

10) Spray hair daily with humidity blocker and wrap hair at night.

I really hope this helps Nadia and helps you all too. This is as detailed as I know to get but if I think of some more I will definitely let ya’ll know.

Flat Iron Mini Review: Croc Infrared Black 1″

Hey Ya’ll,

I might just make a habit out of this. These questions from Yahoo Answers might be questions that a lot of you are asking so whenever I answer a question there that I feel will be helpful here, I will post it.  Read what sets the Croc Infrared flat iron apart from the others.

Question:

Well, i really really want a new hair straightener (a really good one that won’t kill my hair) i have the Remington wet-2-straight and it used to work ok but its like really old now it’s damaging my hair like a lot. And I’ve read a few reviews saying the the Croc infrared straightener works really good. so i was just wondering what you guys think? I have kinda wavy hair, its not thick at all (it’s really easy to straighten) but it’s pretty long..so yeah(:

Additional Details:

if i were to get the croc one I’d spend 109 because it’s supposed to be a really good straightener..so maybe a little higher than that if it’s good quality..but not much (:

My Answer:

Hi Katluvv, You want a new straightener…Cool! I used to have the flat iron that you have now (Remington wet 2 straight). It can be very damaging to your hair for two reasons: 1) It is not great to flat iron wet hair (subscribe to my newsletter to find out why…look to the right side of the screen and put in your email address) 2) This is not a true ceramic flat iron but one with ceramic plates.

I have read many flat iron reviews and Croc flat irons stand out to me as being high quality hair straighteners. Let me tell you why. The Croc infrared flat iron has plates with 3 different heating elements. This means that the straightener recovers heat quickly.

You see, after you make your first pass with a flat iron, the plates lose some heat and it needs time to recover. With the Croc hair straighteners 3 heating elements there shouldn’t be much downtime. So hopefully you will not need more than 2 passes to get your hair as straight as you want it, because the plates will maintain most of its heat.

If you are interested in this flat iron, I definitely think the Infrared Black 1″ Flat Iron is a good choice. Still not sure which flat iron to get? Then read How To Choose A Flat Iron for more info.  And please don’t forget to Comment and Subscribe

Flat Iron Mini Review: Can the Remington Shine and Frizz Control Flat Iron Eliminate Frizz for 15 Hours?

Quick Question,

Okay so does anyone actually like flat ironing their hair for 2 hours, only for it to frizz up again in 1? I know I don’t and I’ve heard the complaints around the internet about the drastic effect stepping outside can have on your hair. You put all that work into getting sleek hair only for the humidity to undo it all in about 5 minutes.

Obviously that’s not cool. That’s why the Remington Shine Therapy and Frizz Control flat iron is such a find. It promises frizz free hair for 15 hours. I’ll take 15 hours over 5 minutes any day.

A girl on Yahoo Answers had a question about trying to find this particular hair straightener and she seemed desperate to find it. It appears that she loved that flat iron and wasn’t willing to just go out and buy any other straightener. That’s true loyalty. Makes you want to see what the big deal is.

Anyway, I was pretty sure that was the one that she was talking about so I answered her question. See the question and answer below.

Casper from Yahoo Asked:

I doubt anyone will answer this.

Back in 2005-2006 I used this grey flat iron by Remington. It had purple buttons. I think it was bought from K Mart. I think it was a one and a half inch straightener. Does it sound familiar to anyone? Does anyone know a link to it?

My Answer to Casper’s Yahoo Question:

Hey Casper,

I believe the flat iron you are looking for is the Remington Shine Therapy Flat Iron. It is grey with purple buttons. If this is not the one you are looking for then I suggest you look into it if you can’t find the specific one you mentioned.

Here’s why: The Remington Shine Therapy Frizz Control Flat Iron, for a flat iron that costs under $50, has incredible reviews. And it really does protect your hair against frizz. It seems to be a great buy according to its users.

How the Frizz Control Flat Iron Faired with Users

– Got a user’s natural African-American hair as straight as a relaxer with no additional products

– Kept a user’s hair straight in a steamy bathroom – Performed 100% in a test conducted by Good Housekeeping. What they did was put hair samples in a steamy/humidified room. Part of the hair samples were flat ironed with the Remington flat and no product. They compared this to hair samples that were flat ironed with another straightener and treated with an anti-frizz product. Apparently the winner was the Remington hair samples, hands down.

– Straightened better than the Chi for one user – Straightened better than the Sedu for another user

If you’ve been struggling with frizzy hair 15 minutes after you’ve flat ironed then the Remington Shine Therapy Flat Iron is the one you need to get. It is great for anyone, especially those on a budget. Check it out to be on your way to shiny and frizz free hair.

And if your still unsure then check out my post How To Choose A Flat Iron.
